Mobile Marketing.

Mobile Messages

Work on your message composition.  You can only use 160 characters, so be concise, but clear.  Shortcuts or “text speak” is acceptable when text messaging.  Your opt-out message can include that kind of message, too.  You can save characters this way.  You can get some good ideas from some translators.  Push messaging through mobile marketing efforts like SMS can be incredibly powerful.  Consider pushing discount codes or coupons to customers who have opted in to receive updates from your business.  This increases the value of your mobile marketing and increases the likelihood customers will find value in all the information you provide.

Sharing Video

A great mobile marketing tip is to ask your customers to share their videos.  Customers use their mobile phones to capture real events that happen in everyday life.  This is a great opportunity for you to build a community and to help engage customers by having them participate in your marketing efforts by submitting their own videos.

Quality of Message

No matter what type of features you’re thinking of adding to your mobile marketing campaign, you need to remember that it’s all about the execution here.  Mobile users are growing at a faster rate than PC users ever have, so everyone’s attempting to go mobile.  Stand out by focusing on quality execution rather than just expansion.

Stay Current

A customer base typically remains the same unless market factors prompt a change.  However, this doesn’t always apply to mobile customers.  Many dynamics outside the realm of your particular market can cause fluctuations in this customer base.  For example, technology issues can cause you to lose some of your business, so it is essential for you to stay updated on advances in this area in order to keep up with or surpass the competition.

Timing is Everything

Do not send text messages to your customers too early in the morning or late at night.  No matter how loyal the customer is, or how exciting the promo, they will not be happy about receiving a text at an odd hour.  When calling or texting someone, remember there is a live person on the receiving end; therefore, it is important to be considerate of the time in which you call as well as the type of message you are sending.  Adapt your mobile marketing calls to the circumstances of the person you are calling.

Personalization

Use a platform that allows you to personalize your messages by way of tokens.  Personalizing something is always a great touch.  You can put your recipient’s name in every message making it a little more likely they will want to read it.  Just keep in mind the 160-character limit when using tokens with email formatting.

Landing Pages

Business landing page.

For all of your product sales and information, you want to set up a link for a mobile-specific landing page.  All phones need to be able to use a mobile friendly page, and you want that link to be very easy to find so that your customers can bookmark them directly on their phones and visit often.

Testing

Use A/B testing on the mobile version of your landing page.  Testing is crucial to determine what is and is not working for visitors to your mobile page.  Develop two different versions of your landing page (A & B) and see which pulls the most conversions.  Keep whichever page is more successful.

Know Your Target

A key element to mobile marketing success is to target your message whenever possible.  If you have known buying habits of customers, your advertising and marketing should be targeted towards the buying habits of these customers.  You already have your foot in the door with them, so why not go with what has already been successful with them.

Balance your mobile marketing within an integrated media strategy.  Mobile marketing alone will not take your brand to the next level.  Neither will direct mail or internet marketing alone.  You need to develop a multi-channel strategy that works in harmony with each other to really tell the story of your brand.  If you feel your mobile marketing strategy is acting on its own, now is the time to bring it into your larger marketing strategy.  Even if you think your advertising is as good as it can be, it probably isn’t.  Again this is probably the time to bring it into your larger marketing strategy.
