We’ve all been there. You’re up at 5:00 AM, coffee in hand, grinding through the strategies that the “gurus” say will work. You’ve got the late nights, the strategic planning, and the networking down to a science.
But for some reason, the needle won’t move. You’re hitting a ceiling—maybe it’s at $250k, maybe it’s at $500k—and no matter how hard you push, you can’t seem to break through.
On the latest episode of the 5AM Podcast, I sat down with Dr. Joseph Drolshagen, creator of the SMT (Subconscious Mindset Training) Method, along with two “power players,” Derek E. Chinners and Mose Nisley. We pulled back the curtain on why your business results are actually a reflection of your internal “motherboard” rather than your external strategy. We discuss the Invisible Ceiling: Why Strategy Isn’t Enough to Scale Your Business.
The Subconscious “Motherboard”

Dr. Joseph explains that 85% to 95% of our life’s results are determined by the programming stored in our subconscious. He calls this the motherboard.
This motherboard holds:
- Your past experiences (and even stories you’ve heard from others).
- Your paradigms about money and success.
- The “voices” in your head that trigger the actions you take—or don’t take.
If your motherboard is programmed with the belief that “rich people are arrogant” or “success requires 80-hour work weeks,” your subconscious will actively sabotage your growth to “protect” you from those outcomes.
Real-World Breakthroughs: From “Whoopie Blankets” to Warehouses
We didn’t just talk theory; we looked at the evidence.
The “Whoopie Blanket” of Security
Derek shared his story of clinging to a W-2 job like a “whoopie blanket,” afraid of what life would look like without a traditional safety net. It wasn’t until he shifted his subconscious perception that he was able to let go. The result? He was fired a week later—which he reframed as the greatest thing that ever happened to him—and immediately saw his business revenue quadruple.
The Warehouse Vision

Mose described how he used the SMT tools to literally “see” a new warehouse before the funds or plans even existed. By living in the vision of a 5,800-square-foot facility rather than the stress of his current limitations, he watched the project rise from the ground in just 10 weeks—completely stress-free.
This is an example of the Invisible Ceiling: Why Strategy Isn’t Enough to Scale Your Business.
A Biblical Foundation for Abundance
For many of us in the 5AM community, leadership and faith are inseparable. Joseph pointed out that the SMT Method isn’t just psychology; it’s deeply rooted in scripture.
We discussed Mark 11:24:
“Therefore I say to you, all things whatsoever you’re praying shall ask, believe that you shall take it, and they shall come to you.”
The key is the “believe that you have received” part. Most business owners wait for the results to arrive before they believe. The SMT Method teaches you to come from the vision, not just go toward it.
Are You Ready to Move the Needle?
If you feel like you’re doing all the right things but still hitting that invisible ceiling, it’s time to stop looking at your spreadsheets and start looking at your programming. Dr. Joseph has made a special blueprint and a 15-minute discovery call available specifically for our 5AM Podcast listeners.
Stop “efforting” and start aligning.
